Did you know furnace filters are supposed to be changed regularly?
Changing your furnace filter regularly has many benefits.
It plays a crucial role in home comfort. However, no two homes are the same so sometimes you may need to change your filter more than others.
Changing your filter regularly will:
- Maintain healthy air quality: having a clean filter helps the air in your home stay free from dust and contaminants.
- Keep energy costs down: having a clean filter ensures efficient operation of your system and saves you money on utility bills.
- Reduces the risk of dangerous scenarios: proper filtration helps prevent system malfunctions and hazards
- Improves temperature regulation: fresh filters contribute to better temperature control in your home
- Eliminates stagnant air: changing the filter helps maintain a fresh and comfortable environment in your home
- Contribute to your furnace running smoothly

How to install a furnace filter replacement?
1. Locate the filter on your furnace. Take note of the direction of air flow, it usually is printed on the side of the filter. Also make sure you have the right size filter for your furnace.
2. Turn off your system. You can turn off from the thermostat settings or use the power switch on the furnace itself. (It looks like a light switch)
3. Remove blower door or access panel if necessary. (Some furnaces do not require this step)
4. Carefully and slowly remove the dirty filter. Usually there is buildup from dust and dirt.
5. Install the new filter, making sure the airflow arrows are pointing in the same direction as the filter you just replaced.
6. Close the blower door or access panel (if you needed to remove one)
7. Restore power to your system

How often should you change your filter?
The general rule-of-thumb is to change it at least once every 90 days. It is recommended that filters be changed monthly during peak seasons of use, such as winter (when it’s used for heating daily) and in the summer (when it’s used for A/C; if your furnace is equipped with this feature)
As mentioned before, no two homes are the same. With that being said, households containing pets or smokers will typically require more filter changes.

If your furnace does not have a filter, you should not be running your system. This compromises the system’s ability to run properly as debris and other items may get into the blower; which could be hazardous and could also damage your system.

Some tips:
- Write the date on your filter, so you can easily keep track of when it was installed and when you need to replace it
- You may notice more dust than usual, its time to change your filter.
- It takes longer than usual to heat/cool your home, its time to change your filter.

Do you do laundry? Do you use a clothes line or a dryer?
If you use a dryer, do you clean the lint filter every time?
Did you know you are supposed to clean it after every use?
Did you know that keeping your lint filter clean:
- Enhances airflow
- Shortens drying times
- Lowers energy consumption
- Reduces utility bill
- Helps prolong the lifetime of your machine
- Reduces risk of fire

If your screen has gunk built up on it, soak it in hot water with dish soap and gently wash it until it is clean again. Then give it a good rinse and let it air dry before putting it back into your dryer.
Never cleaning your lint filter can lead to damage on your clothing and also to your machine. It can also lead to a decrease in your air quality because lint from a dirty filter may get blown out of the dryer vent and into the home.
So keep that in mind when you do laundry. Make sure you are cleaning that lint filter.
